Halloween Scalleycat!

On Halloween night, many people from all over the northwest (and Max from Leeds) turned up in Liverpool to join in LTS' Scallycat. Some in fancy dress, some pretending to be dressed as a "cyclist"..

Everyone was glad to see those friendly faces that they haven't seen in a while and while chatting away people were getting ready at the Bombed-Out church, maps in hand and routes vaguely sorted.. Chicken shouted everyone to cross the road and await the start of the race.

GO!

The actual race was set up into three parts which included 3 checkpoints for each part. There was a time window in which you had to get to each checkpoint, otherwise you were out of the race. Everyone made all the checkpoints but some got lost.. some broke their bikes and everyone had fun!

After what was probably the toughest race this year, people started to get to the finish line.

Ok.. so I'm sure you've been to Liverpool for an alleycat in the past.. But this time it's going to be totally different.

Like Nastys race a couple of weeks ago (Fixed Drift) this is a checkpoint race in the dark.. To add to the fun, it's going to be in fancydress!!

Starts 6pm with the actual race heading off around 7pm.. Haven't a clue about how many checkpoints there are, but I can tell you one thing, it's going to be in parts so everyone has a chance at the title! There's also going to be prizes for best dressed.. fancy dress or not!

Ok, so this coming friday shows us the second alleycat coming from the depths of Cant Go Slo! I've heard from the horses' mouth (Nasty, himself) that this is going to be a small inner-city race with about 5 checkpoints going from carpark to carpark.. which means a lot of turning in circles up some dreaded slippery ramps. It's quite a late start at 8pm (7pm registration) but because of this, i reckon the streets will be more exciting to ride and the carpark stages will be very quiet!

£5 Entry means a lot of fun to be had.. Get down if you can!

Also, whilst I'm "blogging", I might as well say that this sunday is yet another edition of Ride It Sunday.. not to brand the fun and games..

Yes ok, me and liam haven't been on the full game of finding and going to pubs in Greater Manchester, but we are both glad that things have calmed down with the manchester scene, so to say, and we're still here and still having fun!

So be there this Sunday! Same as usual.. Food - Fun - Fixies and Free milk*!!

The guys over at note are celebrating 10 years rollin' with an olympic themed event in platt fields.

they've asked us to bring some riders along for some fixed events such as long skid (i wont be entering) and race around the lake etc, to go alongside the high jump and best trick comps for the skaters.

April 29, 2008—Pigeons in Seattle, Washington, are under attack by an unknown assailant with a dart gun, officials say.

Local authorities have received several reports of pigeons found in the city center with 3- to 4-inch (7.5- to 10-centimeter) metal darts through their skulls.

At least three birds, including the one pictured here, have been found alive with the needlelike projectiles lodged behind their eyes.

"This is just a horrifying case," Tori Perry, a cruelty case worker for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, told the Seattle Times.

"Someone who would do this to an animal is a short step away from doing this to a human being."

The darts appear to have been fired from a blow gun and have not penetrated the pigeons' brains, Perry said. The injuries, however, are likely to worsen and become infected, resulting in "a very, very painful death," she added.

The animal-rights group is offering a U.S. $2,000 reward for information about the attacks.

Meanwhile, local animal-control officials are puzzling over how, if at all, to capture and treat the birds.

"They are quite athletic, good fliers," said Don Baxter, enforcement supervisor for the Seattle Animal Shelter. "They're not hanging around waiting for an officer to get close."

We went to Liverpool again over Easter!
It was one beautiful day!

The weather couldn't have been better and the turnout was really good.
it was a much more chilled out kind of day than our other races, i'm not sure why, but it just seemed to run seamlessly (except for the train driver at the start! treadmillists anyone?)

For the first few hours everyone just chilled out on the square behind Fact.
Then, when it hit 3pm we had a race...again it went really well except for Dan Horn nearly hittin a kid and bendin his forks totally out! but he's okay and so is the kid so its all good!

Okay! So we met the Leeds lads and a few others midday in Manchester, got some scran from that little known deli that is Tesco.
After this Richie took the lads on a ride around town to prepare them a little until sign in at 3:30.

We signed in with a bit of a struggle, because, even though we told everyone not to drink their Monsters, thats exactly what they did so that was the Noho challenge ballsed up straight away! haha!

The Race was started outside the Soup Kitchen with everyone standing by Fred Aldous. It was a manic sprint led by Chicken, over to the Apollo.

The Route we made up was all over the city, riding to one end and back again over and over. By stop 2 (GBH) a couple of the lads wanted out already but all carried on.

The race took well over an hour for everyone to finish the full 15 stops. With a few burst tubes, the cops on Andy's tail, and a bloke shouting at us, because, he "knew we were doing something illegal and was going to tell the police"...he never did.

A few of the leeds lads got well and truly lost and had to be escorted back to Noho from Gmex.
(It was a valiant effort though lads!)

When everyone had been well watered and cooled off it was time for the show!
The film was a bit shorter than we initially thought but i think everyone enjoyed it and will step up the game at the next tricknology session!

We had a real good turnout for the showing without counting it looked around 50 or 60!

Straight after the show we got right on and had a massive tricks session! it was one for the history books by any account! Straight from the off it was complete mayhem!
I haven't a clue who won foot down, but it ended up with Millhouse on the deck with a gashed leg!

Track stand was a long one! with a nail-biter finish, but an elated Max won in the end.

The tricks/skid competition was absolute mayhem! with everyone pretty much doing what they wanted at any point. chicken and jonny were busting out the tricks as per and Alex Stoker skidding his way round past Soup Kitchen was insane!

I got carried away skidding and fractured my thumb in the process! its all for the cause!
to be honest i dont have any idea who won what at this point because my head was exploding!

All in all everyone had an excellent day and we were stoked!

Thank you everyone who came over especially Chicago lads, Leeds lads and the Scousers!
also a massive thank you to all the marshalls, Kent, Lei Mai, Jess, Joe white, Joes mate on the pink Bob (sorry i didnt catch your name mate), Nes, Millhouse, Dixon, Sean, and Chris Rhodes! I'm positive i've forgotten somebody but cant for the life of me think.

Basically, a few of us got together yesterday and had a very nice ride out to Stockport to a lovely little pub called The Crown. With a couple of games of pool, a much loved mess around on the juke box and a selection of beers and ciders which included a £2.40 pint of cider which is of the 7.4% variety. All was well including the ride home.

Yes indeed!
This Sunday was a good day!
Will, Ben and Ryan came over early doors for a tour of Manchester (I hope I did a good job)!
First of all we met in Harry's for a chat with James and Vinny about wheels and the state of my chain...
We then headed over to the polo session at Platt fields, which I'm sure the lads will agree was an absolute blast! all the lads had a smash around and learnt the ropes. The word is Leeds will be on the polo soon so Manchester dropouts better get practicing!
All of a sudden it was 6pm and GMEX time!
The turn out was fuckin ham shankin! We counted 18 people on the ride! YES MATE!
The ride was to The Didsbury in East Didsbury, it was a fast ride through curry mile and up past the Red Lion, Withington. Over through Didsbury town centre and up to the didsbury!
Everyone had a good ride, some were faster than others!
We ended the evening with the new phenomenon that is two man 1 fixie!
after several rounds, it was a close bout between Ben and Will, James and Andy and Richy and Ben.
Ben and Richie took all in the end!
at this point it was 15 minutes until the Leeds lads train so I got off with them. Somehow we got the train with seconds to spare! how? fuck knows!
massive thanks to Will, Ben and Ryan for coming over the hill and thanks to Steve and the lads for teaching us polo!

If you didnt already know, the rideitsunday tribe went up to Leeds to represent in their first ever alley cat/ ginnel whippet!
we were stoked to meet so many new people from literally all over the country especially the Edinburgh lads, who we'll hopefully be visiting at the end of march (more on that as and when).
It was a nice fast hilly race that cost one man his face and his front wheel (get well adie!) and others their lungs but it was well worth it and a triumph on Leeds part!

we all had a top day and brought home the bronze (well done big Jimmy Wise!)

Two men one fixie

Yesterday a few came out to bare the cold weather to gather and have a little fun underneath the GMEX. The car park is quite big with only two floors, but I'm sure the people who were there had a bit of fun trying out some new tricks and swigging a couple of beers.
We ended the night in the Peveril of the Peak which, i'm sure everyone who was there will agree was a torrent of emotions! enough said...

Oh and just to let everyone know, LEEDS FIXED GEAR VALENTINES ALLEY CAT - 15/02/2009.
Be there or just miss out on an amazing day out with some really good prizes up for grabs.

On Tuesday the 3rd of February 2009 a few of the Ride It Sunday lads braved the snow and headed over the hill on the train for Leeds Fixed Gears weekly tricks session!
Sam, Max and the lads showed us around a couple of their local spots, two covered car parks with a load of really cool lines and ramps etc that kept us happy for a good few hours. Richie slammed off a four set! I hurt my hip bein a goon and no one else fell off!
We had a good track stand comp which (if i remember rightly) Max won after Sam threw in the towel with a flourish, then a game of foot down that i think Ben won...
after that we had a few pints of Sam Smiths in the Angel Inn, talked bikes and found a lot of common ground.
After a few pints of extra stout my head was pretty fuzzy and the train was due so we got off, but as far as i know everyone had a really good night and we're hoping that a lot more Manchester lot are coming out for the Valentines Alley Cat on the 15th of February that Sam and the guys are organizing! Bring the other half too!

We started the day by having a pre-ride through the tunnel so that everyone who didn't come on the recce knew what they were against. A nice amount of 25 people entered and raced against the clock. In the end though it was one swede that took the medal.

After the race and to give everyone a little bit of time to relax, we all headed down to the pier head alongside the river Mersey, to have a few early beers and some tricks to boot.

After the fun had gone down and everyone had a bit of a chill, we then headed back to The Pilgrim for the after party.

As you all know a handful of us tried the tunnel out last Sunday.
it was brilliant!
Gladly everyone came out the other end albeit knackered.
Its a gnarly ride fast on the entry and a massive slog uphill for what feels like forever.
We're going straight through Queensway to the roundabout, if people are thinking of seeing us there.
The rest of the day was really cool too so we're going to just have the same again.
We can sort that Sunday, but mostly tricks on the pier head and bevvies galore. but with the added bonus of sweeeet prizes!

TUNNEL OF DOOM

The Tunnel of Doom will be a time trial race through the Mersey Tunnel starting at the Wirral and ending in Liverpool itself.
Manchester lot should meet at GMEX at 11am on the 25th and we'll get on the train over to Liverpool.
Scouse lot meet at Lime Street at 1pm.
We'll then get the ferry over to the Wirral.
BRING ANY MEDIA EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE ESPECIALLY VIDEO EQUIPMENT!
this (as far as we know) is the first tunnel event of its kind so we want as much evidence as possible!
we will be going through to Liverpool this coming Sunday (18th) as a chance for people to test it out.
we'll be going to the Manchester Velodrome sale at 11am or meeting at Piccadilly station at 12:30 for the 1pm train.
If you are down then let us know so we dont leave people behind.

First Ride It of 2009!

Firstly, we'd like thank everyone who came out to bear two flat tyres and a bit of rain. The ride, which was a bit of a city run, ran through spinningfields, deansgate and a nice little car park near the edge of Salford, finally ending at Common bar in the northern quarter. Secondly, during the ride and at the bar, a few ideas were thrown around about a day during the week where a few of us would meet on the purpose of practicing tricks. A date will be sorted for the first one of hopefully many trick days.

To end this post, I'd like to say that plans are in full motion for the TUNNEL OF DOOM liverpool alleycat and a practise run will be on the 18th Jan. We'll be meeting at piccadilly station in manchester around mid day and getting the train to liverpool for about 1-2pm. Hopefully everyone can come along and trying out the tunnel for themselves before the race.

December 14th is the last ride it of 2008 and the next one will be in the 12th of January 2009!
In the new year we'll be leaving the GMEX at the new time of 6:15 because we dont like standing around in the cold when we could be in a pub for an extra quarter hour! ;)
We've got some races and fun stuff planned, but as ever, if you have any suggestions for rides etc get in touch!
